This past Monday, I decided to help another group with some issues they were having. Being in the server group with no issues on the server, there was not much else for me to do at the time. I looked on with Sompop on the Slideshow application, and helped him get it to work properly. The idea of the coding was done well, but there were a few syntax errors. The slideshow whould not change pictures after changing once at first. After a few syntax changes, the slideshow would run through cleanly. The only problem remaining was that it would not restart the slideshow. This problem was solved by changing “pageinit” to “pageshow.” This started the slideshow whenever that picture was shown, rather than whenever it was initialized. After this, the slideshow was working properly, and it could be pushed back into the development branch.

After this, I used Mike’s iPad to go through what we had put together so far. I was looking for any possible bugs. Mike’s iPad only has the free version of KioskPro, so it was difficult to find errors. One thing that I noticed was the dialog box that pops up when completing the puzzle. The title of the dialog box says cstest.worcester.edu. We brought this to the attention of the puzzle team so they could try to get rid of that. Other than that, no bugs or issues were found.

This past Monday, we had our first class meeting in a few weeks. We hadn’t met in a while due to snow days and holidays, so it was good to finally get to meet. This week, Tim Furman came in to take a look at some of the progress that we have made thus far, and to answer any questions that we might have. After showing some templates, and a puzzle activity, some more ideas, and changes were thrown around. Everybody had a chance to get Tim’s input on their part of the project. After Tim left, we talked about how to use GitHub, and we talked about making a sample one to learn how it works. Also, we discussed all of the parts that need to be done for the project, and we divided up into our actual groups. Things are moving forward more smoothly now that we have had some time as a class.

This past week, there were some complications. I could not make it to class on Monday due to some car troubles. My car had to be brought to the mechanic, and I did not have another way to get to the campus. I read online that we were breaking up into groups this week, and later on in the week I talked to a few classmates about the database. I feel that I will most likely be joining in with this group. This was not a very eventful week for me, seeing as I could not make it to class. Other than this, during the week I looked at some links that Professor Wurst provided. This coming week will be much more productive.

This past week, we had our first meeting as a class. This meeting took place at the Worcester Art Museum, where we met the members of the staff that we will be working with on this project. Before discussing the project, Professor Wurst went briefly skimmed over the syllabus and the course requirements. After this, Katrina Stacy and Tim Furman told us about the project and some general guidelines for what they expected. For the most part, they were providing an outline to build upon. They were very open to new suggestions, and this allowed for new ideas to be juggled around for a while. These ideas might be implemented at a later date, but for now it is just speculation.

After this, we went to the conservation lab of the museum. This is where works of art are treated and cared for when they are not on display. This is where they are restored. Here, we were informed of what exactly happens in the conservation lab, and then we were directed over to the three statues (our main focus of the project). We were given a history of the statues themselves, and how they were acquired by the Worcester Art Museum. This allows us to know a little bit more about what we are working with for this project.

As I expected (and can already tell), this class is going to be much different than anything I have done before. It is going to take a bit of time to adjust to the changes, but I am ready to take that challenge.

My name is Brandon Chaban, and I am in the second semester of my Junior year at Worcester State University. I am majoring in Computer Science, but I also recently declared a minor of Psychology. I’m not 100% sure what I want to do after school, but I am hoping to find that out soon. This is the first blog that I have ever created, and I will be using it to update the progress of a project for my Software Development Process course (CS-401).

I’m not sure what to expect from this course, and this project. It will be different to finally be creating something that will actually be used by someone. Knowing this, I expect that I will feel some pressure, but I’m sure it will be fine. Like I said, I have no idea what to expect. I’ve also never worked on this type of a project collaboratively with such a large group before. I think that this experience will be interesting, and it will help me. It will be sort of like a stepping stone between school and actual real world experiences, and I feel that it will be an exciting course.
